"if everything is porn then let your ears weep softly, 2019, takes the form of a contemporary pool of reflection, and is an engrossing, sculptural manifestation of ie.-bs’ ongoing study into the way that algorithmic systems interpret sound based data. ‘This study aims to interpret the ‘body’ through the conversion of one ‘body’ (literal, sound) into a new ‘body’ (analysed, interpreted and systematic, but also a literal object, confined in three dimensional reality)”

In collaboration with digital artist Brooke Smith, ie. undertook creative research to formalise intangible audio from a previous operatic performance into a tangible sculpture. To achieve this, they used machine learning, animation and modelling software, developing software to convert the audio recording into a 3D model.
This 3D file was then cast to create a metal body, which was immersed in glycerin, a widely used compound in skincare products. The artists were motivated by their interest in exploring the process of transfiguration, in this case, the conversion of vocal expressions into palpable bodies. The outcome was a series of systemic sculptural works, rich in their expressive possibilities.
This project reflects a deep engagement with the meeting of art and technology, offering a demonstration of how innovative methodologies and interdisciplinary approaches can create diverse forms of artistic expression.
